“Not unless you’re reporting a death.” has to be one of the best replies in the history of Ohio.

“Brimming.” Arresting word to use of a visit. Also loved the blanket made of pressed pieces of lint.

Lori Stone. I too was transported to an “alien “ planet. 1994 my husband came from nyc to Chappaqua on train. 20 years in our cape cod home . Announced a bank wealth management invited him to be big honcho. I chuckled . Must be April fools. To Cincinnati we moved. Son 10 Daughter 7. The LA , NYC lady embraced The Queen City and a gracious old house . Flooded with memories.

I moved from NY to Dayton, Ohio, on Labor Day weekend, 1996. A bit of a culture shock, but a fascinating 10 years there. Minimal body movement also seems to be the norm in Minnesota.

I found much to like about observations of going somewhere else to live for awhile. Talking with hands like a signer made me realize why some folks in Oregon, Italy, England and other places would observe that I must be from NY. (One said "Jew York" which felt very insulting but now feels very hilarious.) Kubrick's male fantasy did nothing for me and I liked agreeing with your description. Your final paragraph made me burst out loud with a little laugh, which is a great way to end. 'Even the woman pulled out of a drawer in the morgue looks great. Gray but great." Ha!

"You fall into Kubrick rabbit holes, and you look for a little bottle that says, “Drink me,” and you drink it, and then you look for a plate of cookies that says, “Eat me,” and you eat one." That's kind of how I feel about your writing, never sure what to expect or where it's going to go, but you know it's going to be good so you just kind of settle in for the ride and enjoy where it takes you 😊

I like the contrast between Ohio and NYC. Imagery of open spaces (the parking lot!) vs the ducks swimming - in my mind -they flap in tight circles near the Hudson River’s water edge.
