This is an incredible piece, about so much more than this guy and his story, till he becomes a microcosm whose every fiber breathes out to the whole. I fucking loved this. THANKS!

Great writing, and a great profile of Sean.

The film Nightcrawler must be about him.

It is such a great piece! I love it!

Actually that movie kind of annoyed me for a while and then i watched it. The producer is great!

And i like Jake G … of course he killed people in that movie. I never had to go to tbat extreme… Haha!

I hear poetry when I read your work.

Moonlight crowns his brow,

Oberon, Sean unknowing,

Beauty's silent roar.

Richard's voice like dusk,

Sean's reflection in shadows,

Truths in whispered winds.

Hidden grace unveiled,

In the realm of twilight's touch,

Dreams ignite the night.

Met Sean tangentially at Dana McCoy's Lily the Tiger during the United Solo Festival recently and came away with a big crush. I hope I get the opportunity to see this show. Small world.

I understand the crush.

I loved Lily the Tiger and I still have my cat’s ears! Actually they were Dana’s from that show lucky me!

Did your friend have flowers in my seat by chance?

Sean

Yup. That was us, and how the conversation started. I still have my ears as well.

Beautifully written. Wish I could see his performance. This feels like the heart of it: “I don’t doubt he feels shame and guilt when he looks back at some of his experiences, but the piece itself is thrillingly alive because it’s fueled by the love he feels for the people he met and by the pride he takes in having pulled himself out of childhood.”

Exactly!

It has me thinking of a time when I pulled my own self out of childhood. More than one time, if I'm honest.

I’m still doing it. Ish.

That means a lot to me because we worked hard to try and make my experiences with violence relatable to things that people had gone through in their own lives. Thank you for sharing that comment.

I hope you can see the show sometime too!

Also i am kind of amazed you could find a part that really summed it up because i am kind of overwhelmed and inspired by the whole piece.

In retrospect, I should’ve said, ‘A heart of it,’ because to sum up a work of art so multifaceted is like saying the Mona Lisa is about a smile. How long is your show running?

Expand full comment

Oh wait it was just one matinee this past sunday…

I was referring to what Laurie wrote. There is so much in it.

Well it should be around 80 minutes… sometimes i shoot my mouth off a little too much haha!

Excellent round up of Sean’s wonderful work.

"United Solo Festival" is a fascinating oxymoron.

Expand full comment

Haha! I have done the festival twice, three shows, read all the rules, won a prize and am a super uber word nerd of the first order and that never occurred to me!

Haha!
