i loved this story from beginning to end. I felt like I was on the journeys with you. I especially liked the line about the brother who comes home like a cat after eating a mouse, and he’s ready for a nap on the grass. It would have been nice to have been that mouse. She was already having a sweet sleep, I bet.

I was truly touched by the depth of your friendship with Angeles as portrayed in this piece. The way you describe her with such affection and vivid imagery makes it feel like I've known her for years. Your friendship seems to have weathered the tests of time and distance, and the anecdotes you shared, from the hospital room to the taco truck, paint a picture of a bond that is both enduring and heartwarming.

It's clear that Angeles holds a special place in your heart, and the moments you've shared together, whether they were filled with laughter or tears, have left an indelible mark on both of you. The way you describe the simple act of eating tacos outside a taco truck as a memorable and enjoyable experience is a testament to the beauty of finding joy in the little things in life, especially when shared with a dear friend.

Friendships like yours, where you can simply enjoy each other's company and find humor in everyday moments, are truly precious. It's a reminder of the profound impact that genuine connections can have on our lives. Thank you for sharing this heartwarming story of friendship; it's a reminder to cherish the people who bring laughter and light into our lives. 🌟😊

I read this last week when I was very sick with a fever and came back to it again today, the fever blessedly behind me, so that I could read this part again:

"She said, “I give the perfect audition, and I always want to get called back, but I don’t always want the part.” I wondered if she meant that about me, because I wonder that with everybody."

These two sentences opened an entire buried house within me. A house I explored in fever dreams for days.

omg, i love this so much. everything, i kept reading and wanting more. the way you described her brothers, i can see it so clearly just as they are in the photo (hubba hubba alejandro, he is indeed a well-fed cat), the pain of her father's push/pull, all the comedy and frankness, tenderness and serendipity of this friendship. what a beautiful piece. it needs to be in a book. just LOVE.
