What a pleasure. For me your writing is like small hand magic. It’s performed close up, seemingly simple, and yet astonishing because it goes from here to there too quickly for the eye to see. ❤️
Andy! What a great compliment. The best. I saw Ricky Jay close up at a party given for him when he published a new book. He threw playing cards at a wall and made them stick. xxL
Richard is so right anout the “accent”. I’m very good with accents but the Scottish one is the most difficult one to understand….throw a Trinidadian at me…a Jamaican, a Senegalese & I’m fine but the Scottish…fingers crossed for Kamala.
But which word in Borgen was it? I am of Danish heritage, so I felt I could "understand" the language without the subtitles somewhere in my DNA. I continue to say "Hi Hi," which I believe they said in Borgen. Which we watched twice.
Edinburgh is full of ghosts. You won’t have any problem with our accent though – the “Scottish” accent everyone thinks of when they think of one is not ours.
Thanks, dear Christie. Please come to the Zoom conversation on Saturday if you're free, from 3 to 4 EST. There is information about how to RSVP on the stack post, or you can write to me at: lauriestone@substack.com. Welcome!
I love how you sneak in "And Kamala could win." And here we are. My husband and I both envision her saying the Oath of Office, and that was before President Biden stepped down. Along with that, as always, I loved this essay. And I love Richard's blue glasses.
Thanks, love. Please come to the next Zoom conversation on writing craft if you like. There is info about signing up on the stack post. It’s next Saturday July 27 from 3 to 4 pm EST.
Love your voice here, Laurie! I feel I am walking with you in the Botanical Gardens in Maine, somewhere in Concord, and on Warren Street. I eavesdropped on your conversations with Richard. I feel the hassle of moving the plants. I hope I feel the excitement the move as well. Thank you!
That is the aim! You got it. All best, Laurie Please come to the next Zoom conversation on July 27, where I talk about the craft and form elements in the posts.
for a while, as i was turning 60, i thought of living in the UK six months of the year. i am only one generation removed from that "homeland". i looked at duel citizenship. they make it very hard, though i clearly meet criteria. then the UK voted in Brexit. now America might do our own version of Brexit. oh well. i'll just keep reading "Everything is Personal" (i do love Scotland...hope you enjoy Edinburgh), wander around my own neighborhood and allow it all to be.

You are so adventurous!
If you get KH elected, we stay. 😎
"It's a good word," I love it. Honestly, how many words do you need?
But which word in Borgen was it? I am of Danish heritage, so I felt I could "understand" the language without the subtitles somewhere in my DNA. I continue to say "Hi Hi," which I believe they said in Borgen. Which we watched twice.
Somehow your writing over the years has become simultaneously more transparent and more mysterious, full of jack-in-the-box surprises.
So happy to hear!
I have to get to the coast botanical garden. Also, I am impressed you have so many friends.
They come for the Richard. He is friend-nip. xxL
I’m sure they are just as much there for you.
A nice read!
Gracias❤️me gustó mucho!
Thanks, love. xxL

Beautiful writing. I agree with Andy, your style is like hand magic. I just listened to your podcast with Sarah and had to join your subscription.

Thanks, Kirie, for all you say. Kamala can win! (And we won't have to move.)
Glad I stumbled upon this. The flow of your writing is top notch (like Chanel no 5 for some)

Perhaps I missed this in a previous post but what’s the reason for the move to Edinburgh and for how long?
Nazi Germany but here.
Totally get it. Best of luck with the move. Really enjoy your Substack.
Nice!
